NTDB Free and On the Net

Folks,

VickieC seems to have found a source for the NTDB data that is free and
accessible on the net. Here is what you do...

1. Find out your HTS number (don't have one? just use 9405504000 for an
example).

2. Go to http://dataweb.usitc.gov/

3. Click on ITC TRADE DATAWEB

4. Check in with name and password (Create a new account if need be... it is
no charge.)

click thru and you should be at:

http://dataweb.usitc.gov/scripts/INTRO.asp

Hit the Proceed button...

you should be at:

http://dataweb.usitc.gov/scripts/Query.asp

select from the first option:

Customs Value
First Unit of Quantity

next, Enter a commodity number

Enter your HTS number here

select

HTS (Use 2,4,6,8, or 10-Digit Items)

To the right:

Select Aggregate Level & Type (choose HTS-10)

Hit the proceed to next step button at bottom of the page.

Now, you can take it from there... mess about with it... and see what you
get...

Please know I have a particularly hard time figuring these things out, and I
spent about 5 hours today just getting to this point, and I have to give it a
rest. Later I'll go back and work on it when i have time. If you run into
problems, please don't seek a solution from me, cuz I don't know yet. On the
other hand, there is a link to a govt expert regarding the site, send any
problems to this person, and share the replies with the rest of us, so we all
learn.

It is just possible, that we have one US Govt agency selling information, and
another offering it for free, at the same time. So far it looks that way,
and that is fine with me.

Later, as I learn more, I'll refine what instructions I've offered here.
Better yet, let's all work on this and figure it out.
