Almonds

More excessive control by business manipulating government to help drive out competition. All under the guise of "Food Safety". A get big or get out example...

The California Almond monopoly used it's lobbying arm to pressure the FDA to create a regulation that small Almond producers cannot comply with and hence, go out of business.

Starting September 2007, you can no longer buy raw almonds. Almonds will be fumigated with a known human carcinogen (expensive), OR Almonds will be pasteurized (Extremely expensive). Which do you think the industry will use?

PS, I love fresh raw almonds. They have a strong flavor, are soft, and have a sweetness that vanishes when processed. I'll miss them.
