Another Compete On Design Success

Researching usury, I was googling Benedict the XIV who wrote Vix Pervenit in 1745 when Vix Sportswear came up.  Here it is again, competing on design, Brazil style.

I don't think I quite get it John, how is ViX Swimwear competing on design? Can something as ubiquitous as fashion consider the same route as laid out in your book? I am really keen on hearing what you think, since swimwear isn't really an innovation, merely a re-design in aesthetics.

Amy,

Glassware and automobiles are both just redesign of aesthetics also, but a whole lotta design work goes into each. Aesthetics is about aspirations to a lifestyle, quite motivating on its own. AS to the route laid out in the book, both PLan A and Plan B work with fashion too... With aesthetics it is even more about passion, about experiencing a problem and solving it. Shoes hats dresses whatever, competing on design is the basis of the fashion industry. With the Vix example I was more interested in how someone with a vision and passion translated it into actual products, that being the lesson. (It does not matter that to me her swimsuits look the same as any other I see, what matters is her customers see the difference.)
