Markups and Margins for Hi-tech Electronics

Here are some interesting blog posts on the mark-ups and margins on hi-tech electronics, here talking about mac computers and iphones, here talking about how to figure store margins (scroll down to bootsnake), and here is a detailed discussion talking about margins of mass merchandisers, it's about five years old, and most of these companies are gone, which should tell you something.  But the data collection strategy is very good, and can be copied for today.  And check out this sort-of government-run amazon.com

John, just something interesting to add to this article. When you go to places like the UK. Mac books are about 30% or so more. Would it be sound reasoning to be able to take and become a wholesaler here in the US and export mac books over to the UK to exploit Mac's pricing diversification ? Obviously, there are thousands of similar examples of products that could be exploited like this.

The difference may just be import duties into the UK... or something else... figure if it was cheap and easy plenty of people would be onto to it right now... but check it out.
