I hope we've grown up enough to not destroy her career for exercising nonviolent protest and free speech.  In 1968 he two fastest men in the world were whisked back to USA into oblivion. She was obviously protesting, and said she did not intend disrespect.  Good enough, she said what she was not doing.  Nonviolent protest implies a sort of respect, doesn't it?
