Re: How to set up a Web site store

Aha...as I said, i dont think the internet is a place to trade goods...but it
is proving to be a good place to offer services...and that is what I am doing
at WWW.NonCreditEd.Net; that is trading education worldwide...I've already
had transactions with 19 countries...so no, no seeds or glass there..just
courses offered over the internet by me and others.

John:

What is the name of your store? Went to noncredited and then to search under
housewares, then fruit and Spiers. But I do not know how to find your store.
Have I missed the obvious? If so, sorry. Susan Belavic

Re: How to set up a Web site store

Please keep in touch with me. I have owned so many businesses for so many
years, though not one is on Import/Export. I am just hoping for help and
guidance from John. You can visit my simple website at dalar.com.
Thanks,
Jess

Re: e commerce sites

Dear John,
FYI, I also have my Merchant Card Services w/ Costco. I transferred from
Wells Fargo after so many years w/ WF. My website is simple. It is supported
by newsletters and other kinds of marketing materials where our 800 number is
advertised. The address is Dalar.com.

Thanks,
Jessw D

Re: How to set up a Web site store

Ah, yes...textiles and customs..this is why I think it is a very good idea
getting to know your customsbroker BEFORE you bring anything in.

Sounds like you are in good hands, let me know how it goes...

Re: How to set up a Web site store

Dear John:
Just got back after spending two glorious and difficult months in
Nepal. Spent most of the time developing relationships with various Nepalese
factory owners who are friends of my Nepalese family. I had my line of
clothing and (Buddhist) jewelry made there and was pleased with the results.
Now the big difficulty to date is getting the stuff out of customs. My
Nepalese agent was either lazy or ignorant of the textile visas needed to
clear customs, so each day is a painful and expensive wait. Plus I have
shows from tomorrow on without the goods. Learning curve. My
freightforwarder on this end has been terrific (he's the real expensive part
so far) but I think the costs of these problems will outweigh the cost of
what's in the crates. I had mixed media, from paper goods to textiles. Next
time, I'll ship in smaller packages with the same family classifications.
Will have to go back to my notes to figure out freight and duty charges
although I will have to absorb most of the late charges on my crate.

Would also like to know how to set up a Website store. If you can't give me
the information, please let me know.

Thought about your course alot over there. I'm glad it was under my belt and
am applying the sourcing techniques now with some of my contacts in Nepal.
Hope all is well with you and am enjoying your e-mails a lot. Penelope Rose

A couple questions. Did you have to come up with your own merchant account,
or does Yahoo supply one on a percentage basis? I see it does use a secure
server arrangement.

***Yes, I had to get my own merchant account (Visa MC, etc). This is the
toughest part.***

Also, what is the cost?
***for the web site , $100/month up to fifty items, $300/month above
that...***

I am coordinator for a non-profit that uses www.fptoday.com for hosting.
They offer us a free shopping basket software setup called NetPlusCatalog,
included free with the regular web hosting fee, so only costs $20/$25 a
month total. Works very well selling manuals, training registrations, etc.

***sounds like a good solution***

However, we got our own merchant account to take credit cards online.
How does Yahoo compare?

*** I went to costco and got a fairly cheap deal on a merchant
account.....2.75% plus fees galore...***

This may sound trivial or trite, but there are plenty of books at Barnes and
Noble on the subject. :-)

Re: How To Set Up an Online Store

Hello!
Have you gone to Amazon.com?
There is one you can set up for free! Plus, the site already has tremendous
traffic which links together with Amazon shops and Auctions. I believe it
only costs 10 cents to list an item plus a percentage of the sale price once
sold They already have a merchant account setup so you can receive credit
cards etc. So, check it out, http://www.amazon.com and click on the zShops
tab.
I believe they have millions of registered users. That's a plus, since a
major part of webstore success is buidling the traffic to your store!
This can get you up and running almost immediately, about building your
own webstore, I really cannot say who to use. I have no experience with that.
If course the Biggies---IBM etc., I am sure that is very expensive. Perhaps
find stores on the Web that you like the way they are setup, and ask the
store itself, or sometimes the web developer is mentioned at the bottom of
each page of the store.
Hope this helps....please keep me posted on your success...I want to do
this too, but am stuck on what to sell (as most folks are)
Best wishes for a Healthy, Happy Holiday Season

How To Set Up A Website Store

Can anyone tell me how to set up a Web site store? What need to be done and
what areas that I need to cover. Thanks

Catherine Hu

Although I dont think web stores are normally the best way to trade products
or services internationally, I in fact have one, and it is simply a Yahoo.com
ecommerce store. You can see my store at www.noncredited.net, and you can
get your own store from www.yahoo.com. Overall, I think yahoo has the
easiest, fastest and most bang for the buck.
