***LOL...I have been showing people my hot selling glass candles in class
for ten years (price, source, costs etc) and nobody yet has stolen the idea.
Ideas simply dont get stolen in any meaningful (economic) way.***

A few days ago, I came up with a 'What if they just...' idea and so far I
have called a few outdoors stores and no one seems to have it (good sign
right ?)

***
Right on!***

I mentioned it to a few friends and they said it sounded great, I called a
few outdoors stores and they said they didn't carry it and didn't know who
would.

**ask them if THEY would carry it!***

My problem is this, I don't know where to start to find a manufacturer or
even a designer for this. It doesn't seem to fit in any one category. ...
Where can I find a manufacturer that
would do all these parts ?

***Approach from 2 sides, with passion: 1. the plastic companies, to see if
they can add your idea. 2. the cooler system companies, if they can add the
cooler. See how far that gets you, then let me know.***

How do I find a person who will write up a
schematic ... how do I get the parts together ?

***friends, engineering departments of schools...or check the patent gazettes
for your item, and see if someone has designed something similar. It is
extremely likely that a patentholder is frustrated in any attempt to ever
earn an income from his ideas..it is almost impossible to have a patent and
earn any income from it...so they tend to be very receptive to someone who
has a market BEFORE the idea is finished.***

I don't really care if they are a foreign company or a US company. As you
said in your class, I just want a quality product (at the best price I can
get).
Please let me know where you would look to find the answers to these
problems. What kind of resources or directories are out there ?

***always start with www.thomasregister.com, and then check overseas from
there...***

Let me know how it goes...
John
