Re: Former Student, Please Advise on New Product idea

Hello John, to very inexpensively have a drawing professionally created call
your local land surveyor's office and ask to speak with their draftsman.Tell
him exactly what you are trying to do and ask for his help.If he doesn't
respond favorably try another surveyor's office. Most offices use a CAD
system and can produce a drawing quickly and at low cost. I know this will
work because I have done it. Thanks, James Sims p.s. Most people
have difficulty executing their own ideas much less stolen ones.Ideas are
numerous, perseverance scarce. Am I preaching to the choir?

***LOL...I have been showing people my hot selling glass candles in class
for ten years (price, source, costs etc) and nobody yet has stolen the idea.
Ideas simply dont get stolen in any meaningful (economic) way.***

A few days ago, I came up with a 'What if they just...' idea and so far I
have called a few outdoors stores and no one seems to have it (good sign
right ?)

Right on!***

I mentioned it to a few friends and they said it sounded great, I called a
few outdoors stores and they said they didn't carry it and didn't know who
would.

**ask them if THEY would carry it!***

My problem is this, I don't know where to start to find a manufacturer or
even a designer for this. It doesn't seem to fit in any one category. ...
Where can I find a manufacturer that
would do all these parts ?

***Approach from 2 sides, with passion: 1. the plastic companies, to see if
they can add your idea. 2. the cooler system companies, if they can add the
cooler. See how far that gets you, then let me know.***

How do I find a person who will write up a
schematic ... how do I get the parts together ?

***friends, engineering departments of schools...or check the patent gazettes
for your item, and see if someone has designed something similar. It is
extremely likely that a patentholder is frustrated in any attempt to ever
earn an income from his ideas..it is almost impossible to have a patent and
earn any income from it...so they tend to be very receptive to someone who
has a market BEFORE the idea is finished.***

I don't really care if they are a foreign company or a US company. As you
said in your class, I just want a quality product (at the best price I can
get).
Please let me know where you would look to find the answers to these
problems. What kind of resources or directories are out there ?

***always start with www.thomasregister.com, and then check overseas from
there...***

Let me know how it goes...

Re: 8/30 Transcripts 7 pm

Hi John,

Okay, I got the HTS number for the books (cookbooks), but for the spices

does each one have its own? I am assuming yes.

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks!

Anita,

Yes, most likely... so the slow process of looking up each spice ensues..but
perhaps you can do two or three spices...a major one, a midling one, a rare
one...note the prices being paid by us importers..and then go to
www.thomasregister.com

You have to register a name and password at this site, but here's a tip: for
all these non-security sites, use the exact same name and password, so when
you come back once a year and they ask for one, it is the same one you use
everywhere, and then you wont forget it.

Anyway, I checked spices at www.nthomasregister.com and they have one organic
spice distributor names...and a whole bunch of companies who sell machinery
to spice processors.

A good way to find reliable suppliers in USA is to ask THEIR suppliers to
anmes of of good customers. So, ask a spice processing machine maker for the
name of his favorite spice processing machine customer. Get various names
and find a well-respected source.

But back to the search, compare the prices a US processor can give you vs
importing direct, and decide which has the best cost/benefit analysis result.

Let me know how it goes...

John
