Again USA Fomenting War Over Spratlys

USA once had a anti-war (pro-peace) movement, and it was predominately Marxists, so it had its facts straight.  I was astonished to learn the Vietnam war was over supposed oil reserves in the Spratly and Paracels.  And here we are again, making war over those rocks:

Chinese warships followed the USS Lassen, a guided-missile destroyer, as it moved through the Spratlys on Tuesday. The U.S. Navy is operating in a maritime domain bristling with Chinese ships.

Chin will not back down.  If a war starts, it is because our leadership wanted one.

There is of course an alternative, peace rocks.

Feel free to forward this by email to three of your friends.

The problem is that the Spratlys are disputed among the following states : Brunei, China (People's Republic of China), Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan (Republic of China), and Vietnam. $5 trillion worth of goods passes through this area every year so it makes sense to check China's growing antagonism towards these smaller nations. The airports being built on the reefs are not for tourism but for the PRC military. If the U.S. built islands off the coast of Venezuela then one can count on the Ruskies to pay a visit soon.

Note who is not on your list: USA. It's not 5 tril of USA trade. It is OK for USA to play hegemon but not China? Why stick our nose in where we have no dog? We do have bases all over the world, and Russia has done nothing yet, except to occasionally pull our bacon out of the fire, such as in Syria today. https://www.lewrockwell.com/2015/10/fred-reed/us-navy-can-sunk/ One part of the genius of the founding of USA is it would have no standing army.

I think that no matter who controls the Spratly islands and surrounding areas (sea lanes), trade will continue and not cease. The Chinese and others are not stupid.

According to Forbes, "More than half of world maritime trade passes through the South China Sea, with the world’s busiest shipping lane passing right by the Spratlys."* It would be obvious to omit USA from the above list of disputing nations as I'm sure a a good portion of trade flowing through these seas is either destined for or going from the United States. The free flow of trade is important to every country and that is what this is really about, letting smaller economies compete with bigger economies after all we are pro small business.

We all may be pro-small business but not pro-war. By the Forbes reckoning, the Chinese navy should be cruising the Catalina Islands to watch out for its interests. There is no good reason for the USA to have a standing military let alone military anywhere abroad.
