A New Tang?

The Golden Age of all Chinese eras was the Tang Dynasty, flowering about the time Rome had descended into the Dark Ages and Islam was flowering.  What the T'ang did that so enriched China was a opening of trade with the West (to them) and liberality within.

While USA is voting between trade wars and nuclear wars, China is opening trade, with their West.
The first Central Asia cargo train departs from Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, August 25, 2016. The cargo train left Nantong on August 26 for Afghanistan's Hairatan, marking the start of Central Asia freight train service.

Now land transport is 14 times more expensive than sea transport, overall.  I wonder what rates the Chinese can move cargo overland.  And overland this is!  Essentially Shanghai to Afghanistan.

The routing is probably quite different than the red line I inserted, but notice it ends in Afghanistan, where the USA military has been defeated for the last 14 years, as the Soviet Union was before.  For China to launch this rail line means the only people who do not know the Americans are leaving soon are, well, the Americans.  I wonder if we will leave captives behind like we did in Vietnam?  I hope we do not do that again, but since no one was prosecuted for that crime before, it will happen again no doubt.

Feel free to forward this by email to three of your friends.
